WELCOME TO KELLY'S KRITTERS CAVIES
I am a very small caviary located in Hudson NY. My main breed is the Skinny Pig, with an occasional "haired" guinea pig that will be available from time to time. Having a very small caviary, I can focus on each and every one of my skinny/guinea pigs individually.
The skinny pig is an *almost* hairless breed of guinea pig. Skinny Pigs typically have hair on their muzzles, feet, and legs but are hairless over the remainder of their bodies. Skinny Pigs are not significantly physiologically different than regular haired guinea pigs, although they may need to eat slightly more to maintain body heat. The optimal temperature range for Skinny Pigs 75 to 79 °F (24 to 26 °C), which is slightly higher than the optimal temperature range for haired guinea pigs. Their sensitive skin has very much the same appearance as human skin, but has the same needs as normal guinea pig skin.
All of my cavies are housed in my living room as "part of the family". They all receive daily fresh fruits, vegetables and unlimited amounts of timothy hay, as well as their vitamin C additives. All babies are handled from the day they are born to ensure that they are well socialized. They also share their living space with my 5 dogs and my cats (who often like to sleep on top of the cavy cages) which will reduce the chance of them being skittish when being introduced to pets in their new homes.
